Social Phobia - A Case Study

Michelle was 26 years old, married with a small child. Her social anxiety first started when she went to secondary school and gradually became worse over the intervening years. When Michelle came to see me she was incredibly anxious about doing anything outside of her family home, going shopping, meeting friends were a complete nightmare for her. Over the course of about 8 CBT sessions we explored the meaning of her social anxiety and created useful experiments to help challenge her social anxiety and allow her to regain a normal life. At the end of the 8 sessions Michelle was going out, shopping, and meeting friends, socialising, attending mother and toddler groups and had regained her life.
